I'll be getting a HD box tomorrow to go with my HD T.V. (Xmas Prezy)

We only get a few channels broadcasted in HD (a small hand full). I'm looking forward to watching Sky sports in HD though :D

SDTV doesn?t look too bad, but HDTV looks amazing from what i've seen at various stores.

well if you are really from the uk then yes. i know bbc just started hd roll out, but its been here for years now, especially over the air, pbs has been airing since atleast 2001 and the other main networks have had their primetime shows in hd for years now, a couple years ago even the late night shows jumped to hd and now most things worth caring about picture quality about are hd. the 10 oclock local news might be in sd, but who cares anyways right.

I think it just depends on the scaler on the TV more than anything. I would say people's expectations are second to the quality of the scaler.

That's not what he's saying, he's saying SDTV doesn't look that bad so long as you don't have your face pressed up against the TV. And he's right, I think SDTV looks great on a HDTV.

He's not saying that HDTV looks like SDTV, he's saying people should stop bitching about SDTV looking so much worse on HDTV than on a standard television set.

OMG!!!! Eeezee gets a :cookie:!!! Bang! RIGHT ON THE NOSE!!!

Yes, I really am from the UK :p

Thanks for your answer.

Thing is, in America you guys get all the domestic technological advances before us English, or so I am led to believe.

I haven?t properly checked out the HD package that is offered by my provider (Sky) over here (extra £10 a month gets you all the HD channels). Bearing in mind it hasn?t been live over here all that long, and as I said there are only a few channels available in HD anyway.

i think you guys had stop gap digital tv that was wide screen instead. might have not been as obvious what shows from america were shot on hd. most any prime time stuff has been hd for years which is good for them eventually coming out on hddvd or whatever.

SD looks like ass on a 60" TV from 8 feet out, it just looks like a blurry mess of artifacts. I can even tell 720p feeds from 1080i feeds from that distance on this TV.

Why are you watching it from 8 feet away? Is that the TV in your bathroom?
That's about right for that size TV. Maybe a little close, but not excessively so.

8-9 feet is just about the right distance for fully resolved 1080p. What's the point in buying a 1080p TV and sitting too far back to tell the difference from lower resolution?;)
