HDTV wonder is the worst product ever. Doesnt install properly. After WDM driver installation always got the "new Hardware Found - Multimedia Video Controller" popup on every boot. That driver never gets installed and had to force manual install to the devices shown in the pic. The two DTV ones. The other two ATI rage ones are from my display adapter.

HIS ICEQ II X800XT PE VIVO

HDTV Wonder (crap)

Intel Proc/chipset

Enough RAM

Cat 5.1 w CCC

DX9 though missing system.dll file - dunno how to install this. DX installer wont reinstall and this happened while installing/uninstalling the drivers.

MMC 9.01 (the one given on ati.com is 9.03, but installing that doesnt give DTV - what the heck)

I already tried a complete clean install afte using driver cleaner.

You should start with a clean computer before you install the HDTV Wonder. Any graphics drivers or previous All-In-Wonder software will interfere with the install. Here is the formula for correctly installing the HDTV Wonder:

Go to ATi's website
Download the latest Catalyst drivers
Download the latest drivers/software for the HDTV Wonder. There are four separate files.
Put all the files in a safe place (USB keychain, burn a CD, folder on HD)
Reinstall Windows or recover from a clean image
Install Service Pack 1
Install DirectX 9
Install .NET Framework
Install Catalyst drivers
Install the four HDTV Wonder files in order. You will need to put in the CD for the third file to install

Doing it in that specific order being a prequisite to the product operating just further exemplifies his point. 😛

Well, reinstalling windows should never be a part of any hardware installation. .NET framework is not required for HDTV Wonder, however Windows Media Encoder9 is.

You are best to just follow the installation instructions at ATI.com Link I used to installation CD to install mine initially, and upgraded to the newest drivers at that link.

Doing it in that specific order being a prequisite to the product operating just further exemplifies his point.

I don't agree with his specific way since its not exactly correct, however, why would you not expect to install complex hardware like HDTV without having to follow specific installation steps? Its not exactly trivial.

DX9 though missing system.dll file - dunno how to install this. DX installer wont reinstall and this happened while installing/uninstalling the drivers.

That sounds like the key, what is the error message you get?

true, but some things in life are not easy. besides, when it's up and running, it does look good. hell, we have people on this board spending more time on their sli setups. doesn't seem to stop them. 🙂

I think the HDTV wonder is crap. All the HDTV cards out are. None of them support digital cable box's HDTV out. I can't wait for HDTV MythTV

They're designed for OTA broadcasts, so obviouslythey'll be crap for what they're not designed to work for.

After watching "free broadcast" Olympics this summer, NFL football including play-offs and many of the PrimeTime are now freely broadcast as well. I don't think its crap, its excellent IMHO especially using MCE 2005 for a front end.

Doesn't require you to subscribe to cable to access HDTV either.

I get no error due to system.dll

only dxdiag reports it to be missing.
Games and all run fine.

I cant find system.dll to be a part of Dx anyways on any website.

How do I uninstall DX9c ?

Ill tell you what is really annoying about my 9600 Pro AIW is the WDM sound driver just fails to load and requires a reboot if I want to watch TV.

Looking over your device manager, it looks to me like you are missing some WDM entries. Have you tried just installing the card with the original installation disc? Make sure you read the installation tips and release note files, don't forget that media encoder9 is required before you attempt to install MMC.

ok i got everything working now.
Driver issues.
But it still gives me crap about not being an ATI and no DX and etc etc.

But I got everything up and running.

Now gotto gind howto get a good signal.
I hardly got any signal in here.

Should I get an amplified antenna ?
which one ? relaly good for indoors as i live in apts.

thanks a lot.

This is the order I install with my AIW

1. DX9 Encoder
2. MMC DAO
3. DVD encoder
4. MMC
5. Catalyst

Seems to work ok when the drivers decide to actually load.

you need to find the compus heading of the towers from where the signal is coming from. it's quite possible that you're on the wrong side of the building. if that's the case, an indoor antenna will do nothing for you and a rooftop will be your only solution.

Do you have any recommendations for an antenna ?

I'm using a ChannelMaster Stealthtenna 3010 with a Model 3038 amplifier board Link.(I got mine at Fry's) I have it mounted in my attic, and it provides very good reception. I'm ~20 miles from the broadcast towers and not direct line of site.

I am <6.5 miles away from the tv station.
so, should i get amplified one ?

I do get a few bars in my room, but have to stand holding it.
maybe a better antenna will do...

I'm not familiar with those indoor antennas to be honest. Sites like Antennaweb are geared toward outdoor antennas. Maybe try AVSforum HDTV forum

I'm having problems with my recently installed HDTV Wonder as well.

After installing the card, I popped in ATI's install CD and let it install everything. It finishes installing everything it wants to and prompts me to reboot. I reboot, and I get a New Hardware Found window, Multimedia Video Controller, happens every single time I reboot. I've tried installing both the drivers from ATI's site and the CD, neither seems to solve it. Because the drivers don't seem to be installing, DTV and CATV both fail to initialize, even though I have the antenna plugged into the DTV jack and the cable TV cable plugged into the CATV jack.

Edit - The PC Check in the MMC config says everything is fine, except for a .2% variation in my audio cards's clock speeds. What ever that means . . .

same stuff as me. what I did.

Got rid of every possible ATI driver and software. Foollowed instructions given in Drivercleaner pro from dirverheaven.net.

Used that program in safe mode.

When back on normally, installed the WDM drivers only for the HDTV wonder. Rebooted and let all the 4 drivers show in the System Hardware panel. Then installed all other multimedia software one by one, rebooting often.

Finally installed catalyst in the END. and final reboot went ok.
