HDTV vs. HD Monitor

This is a curiosity question. It seemingly is straightforward, but I thought I'd ask anyway. If HDTVs are 1920 X 1080p, and an HD Monitor is 1920 X 1200p should the picture on the monitor be superior to an HDTV? I ask because I just bought a blu-ray player and have been renting lots of blu-ray discs and the pictures are truly stunning. It got me thinking, is my monitors picture better than it would be compared to on an HDTV (which I don't have, so nothing compare it to) theoretically speaking considering the typical specs? It seems that the only advantage of an HDTV (albeit a big one) would be screen size. Is that correct? Has anyone done a side-by-size comparison?

So you're saying there is no advantage to an HD monitor have more pixel capability as blu-ray movies only utilize 1080p.

blue ray is 1080p format, not 1200p.

EDIT: sorry i did not read Scoop's reply before posting. And yes thats right there is no advantage, you will just have black bars at the top and bottom of screen, like watching 4:3 TV on a widescreen with bars on the sides.

Just an added note if you watch the 1080p movie on a 1200p HD monitor if you want the best picture you shouldn't stretch the picture to fill the screen for best picture although I do and dont mind the difference in quality.
