HDTV setup question

Hello,
i'm new to the whole HDTV thing. I purchase a vizio 50" Plasma along with a Directv H20 HD receiver. I want to want the superbowl this sunday, i'm currently watching the Knicks and rockets game on ABC HD. The graphic is not very good.

My question is how can i received OTA singal from my receiver?

What kind of connection are you using between the TV and DirecTV receiver? Are you sure what you're watching is HD? Do other HD channels look good?

How is your plasma connected to your receiver? Plasmas generally don't have HD tuners built-in, so you probably won't be able to watch OTA HD without a separate HD tuner box.

Are you sure that you're watching an HD signal and that your connection is component, DVI or HDMI?

Are you sure you're using an HD connection? Component (RGB cables) or DVI/HDMI is the only way to get an HD picture. Also, make sure your DTV box is set to an HD resolution. I have a Dish811 HD box, and it was set to output 480i by default, I had to manually change it to 1080i to get HD.

I'm using HDMI connector from TV to Receiver. the graphic on Chanel 76 Discovery channel is great, graphic is super clear. Yes, it said ABC HD. Went i watch the Discovery channel HD, the led light goes to 1080i. The led light stay at 480i/p when i watch ABC HD

no...digital, or in this case HD, is all or nothing.

I should have rephrased the signal part. A provider can kill a channel signal quality by using a low bit rate. I have Sky Digital and most of the channels look great. Hard to tell apart from DVD's but some of them look like ass. Very blocky.

Sounds like the game isn't being broadcast in HD.

It happens sometimes, but I can guarantee the Super Bowl will be in HD.

HD should look far, far better than DVD. If your HD channels look the same as (or worse than) DVD's you're missing out.

That's too bad about the bball game. Daggon ABC.

And while you can guarantee it for him, I don't get any HD channel that's broadcasting it. 🙁

Sky isn't Hd yet hence the Sky Digital and not Sky Digital HD 😛

I'm happy about the quality of channels I am getting. I hardly watch any tv.
