DLP looks horrible. It's not worth the money you might save.

The panasonic plasmas are fine TVs but being someone who develops DTVs for a living, I was a bit disappointed overall. Nice panels but video processing leaves a lot to be desired. Great bang/buck though.

Ditto... QFT... except I got mine in late spring.

Fujitsu > Pioneer > Panasonic

oddly enough, the price is also > > > you get what you pay for. I've seen all 3 sets tuned properly and anyone who says Panasonic's suck is a moron. There's a reason Panny's the #1 selling Plasma brand. Good price, great quality.

No one is arguing that a Pioneer has a better picture than a Panasonic. It's the best and you pay for the best. What people have a problem with is you stating that a philips has a better picture than a Panasonic. I've seen Philips plasmas and they are never in the same league as Panasonic plasmas.

I'm contending that your stores often push items solely based on the margin. I'm not saying that there is anything wrong with that necessarily, just that it is done. How else could you push a philips over a Panasonic?

well to be honest with you i though philips products were SH*T until we were sent away to training for magnolia home theater. during the philips "class" he had a 42px600u totally updated and stock settings next to his newest philips (dont remember the model) at stock and the philips was clearly better. he also had his 42" lcd next to an xbr2 and both were at stock settings and all 4 tvs were getting same feed and his 42" looked better as well. everyone at the class grilled the ish out of him to make sure he wasnt cheating, sure enough he wasnt. i am not talking out of my azz. :)

So you went to a Philips training session where they adjusted Philips TVs to look better than other TVs that are set at stock settings. That's like going to an AMD class where they show you how to make an Athlon X2 run faster than a Core 2 Duo.

Congrats, where did you buy it and price?

Are you using cable, satellite, OTA or HTPC as your video source?

Bought it at Fry's Electronics and had the pricmatch CircuitCity for $1999. My video source for now is just OTA and I'm also going to hook it to my PC.

Did it come at or below $1849? I recently saw it for that price at CC with some coupon.

I just got this TV delivered on Sunday - couldn't set it up in time for the game, though. I am getting it wall mounted tomorrow :) My wife was less than thrilled with the SD quality so I am going to get an HD antenna to check out the OTA broadcasts. DVD was beautiful though and I don't even have a progressive scan DVD player. I am just using composite video cables until I buy some component and S-Video cables tonight. No HDMI unless I upgrade to DishHD and/or Oppo DVD player :(

I got it at Best Buy for $1849 + tax by price matching it with CC, which had a $150 coupon until Sat. I went with BB because their PSP is cheaper and longer than CC's. I thought the silver bezel would look funky, but it actually goes very well with my decor. Now my family room looks a bit like the ads you see for Plasma TVs :p Consumerism FTW!

Brutal advice.. :p Ever seen the HDM12? worst picture I have ever seen on a plasma (its a Hitachi) I sold these TV's for a few months at a local A/V place in town here. Panasonic was top notch along with Pioneer. I love the TH42PX50 and the newer PX60. Hotness.

Pioneer is set to punch Fujitsu in the face this summer. Complete domination. :)

LCD FTW...ok i dont know what i am talking about. but AVSforums does and they love panny and pioneer. AVSforums FTW. here is a question to derail this thread. can a plasma be too big? if so, what would be a good size for a 15x12 room. 15 being the length and 12 being the width and 6.5 being the height....

Well, you are one in about 1,000,000 who think that...probably should try to get a job at Eyemasters....

Bigger the better, note this does not apply to breasts...

Get the biggest tv you can afford. 50" doesn't all that big now :p, 65" would be great but thats 4x as much.
