hdtv question

so this jan i'mma get me a nice LCD (prolly 37" westy) and i had a question about viewing normal, analog tv (u know, the regular 99 channels) on an hdtv. since the westy doesnt have a tuner, it will be going through an htpc that will be outputting in 1080...will the picture look like crap even though the actual output to the screen is hd?

nothing you'll notice. i was doing that at my old house with my old htpc running a hauppauge 150 ( i think). i could only go to 1366x720, but it still looked the same.

You can also run through a VCR or cable box. I'd recommend an S-Video converter if the input is not available, as composite doesn't look good at all on these systems.

EDIT: As mentioned, best to run through the PC so you can apply filtering, if necessary.
