HDTV question

Okay would it be better hooking my PC up to an HDTV via DVI to HDMI cable, or with component cables? I have a 7800GT and a 30" widscreen phillips HD TV (tube). I tried using a DVI cable and the DVI to HDMI adapter and the quality was below poor. Plus I couldn't even see the start bar.

Secondly, is there a thread or a website that will show me how to set and tweak all my GPU settings properly, because I really don't know.

Well DVI->HDMI is supposed to be digital all the way through. I thought HDMI was just DVI with audio? Something is wrong with the cable or adapter is my guess.

there wont be a difference on your tv. if you had an lcd id suggest dvi.

I'm using DVI-I dual link, DVI-D would not work at all. Beautiful HD at 720P. Great gaming too

I run my PC on my Hitachi 57" rear projection (3 tubes) and have done so for over a year. I tried a DVI cable, but didn't have the resolution options that Digital component gives me, in fact I ran into problems with the computer recognizing a plug and play tv without any driver support. With component digital I can run from 640 X 480 upto 1800X 1080 (with overscan), or an max adjusted res of 1712X976 without overscan @ 30Hz refresh (great for games, but not for windows). The best viewable desktop I can get is at 1152X648 @ 60Hz. Overall the quality shouldn't be any different, so use what works the best with your HDTV.

I use the 15pin Dsub connector on my Toshiba 42" plasma, but with that it doesn't let me pick widescreen resolutions, so I'd be interested to find out how an DVI-HDMI adapter works out for you for quality and resolutions offered.

Component (YPbPr) != composite (RCA). Component should look fine, since you can actually run at HD resolutions.
