HDTV Problem

I'm trying to help my dad out with a problem I discovered. I was setting up our Harmony 880 remotes around the house for the different TVs since he just dropped FIOS TV due to some serious customer service folley and got DirecTV boxes for the large TVs in the house.

In any event, this is the TV: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-HL-S5686W-56-DLP-HDTV/dp/B000F2P2T2

The DirecTV box has four output types selectable by a button on the front of the box (480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i). When the tv is on 480i it says it is not supported which is fine (it's also not supported on the other two Samsung TVs we have: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-HP-S4253-42-Plasma-HDTV/dp/B000ELOQGE ). Selecting 480p works fine, same with the other two TVs. 720p and 1080i are the problem, both other TVs work fine with our DirecTV HD boxes at these resolutions (scaling of course since their native resolution is lower); however, with the 56" TV it keeps the signal for about 2 seconds, searches for signal, chooses HDMI1 again, displays video for 2 seconds, searches, selects HDMI1, over and over.

Does this sound like something wrong with the DirecTV box (H-20) or something wrong with the TV?

Worth clarifying: DLP is connected to the DirecTV box with HDMI, its second HDMI connection goes to the DVD player [Samsung DVD-HD860] which doesn't have any issues, but I'm also not sure how to know if it's upscaling to 720p or just displaying 480p and perhaps this device could be used for troubleshooting?

Thanks in advance.

Got one response by PM suggesting I try component cables, and since I can't move the TV on my own, I'm going to wait for the DirecTV guy who is coming today to make sure everything is working fine. I did get the DVD player to upconvert to 720p and 1080i and it worked without the issues mentioned above while connected to HDMI2 on the TV.
