I haven't bought a new TV in years, and know nothing about the different types (LCD, Plasma, etc.). What I do know is I have a built-in entertainment center above the fireplace in my new house that is 51" wide and plenty deep. I don't want to spend a shitload, and I plan to also buy a 5.1 HT system w/progressive scan DVD. I don't really know what HD channels are available (new to the area), but figure if I'm buying a new TV I might as well get an HDTV. That's a very good set but only 720p resolution (1280x720). For $1400 + $150 shipping from OneCall.com (ofr $1550 shipped from Amazon) you can get the HLS-5087 which is 1080p resolution (1920x1080).

If you want a bigger TV, the HLS-5687 (56") is $1750 shipped.
