I want to wait another year, aren't they supposed to make them with the receivers built in starting at the end of the year?

Too bad there's nothing of any value to watch.

Viper GTS

now there's a completely objective statement 😉

i'm still waiting on this one. imo, it's too expensive for me to take a risk to be an early adopter when there are still unresolved issues. my parents, on the other hand, will soon be the proud owners of a samsung 50" dlp monitor, and as soon as they do i'm sure i'll find many excuses to visit them 😀

I've had a Pioneer Elite 610HD since April 2000. 58 inches of widesreen HD glory. I use the Dish Network 6000 receiver plus their OTA unit to get HD locals. HD is sooooooo sweet!

Yes, mits 65819 in home theater and sony 36XBR in living room. Probably going to move the sony upstairs and get a samsung 507 DLP set.

damn you and your HD cable. Why must AT&T Broadband suck so much 🙁

shiva,

make sure you are vocal to your cable provider, get involved with your local statons, bother them, push your local home theater specialty store to sign a memo you wrote.

I for one am really itching for one but am waiting for prices to come down.

They're already down! Get out there and get one! 😀

I don't have satellite or anything high def but I have a progressive scan DVD player hooked up by component video. to a 47" HDTV Panasonic. I love it! 😀

BTW, the following are available now in HDTV:

NBC, CBS, ABC, PBS, WB, Showtime, HBO, Discovery HD, HDNet, HD PPV (DISH).

Plus, ESPN HD coming in a few months and Cinemax HD coming soon, too.

FOX does 480p (EDTV or DVD quality) but seems most FOX stations have problems passing the widescreen signal. I've read that FOX was only doing 480p at first but are now planning on going to 720p for real HDTV.

oh man...so much has been tried with AT&T. But they were to into their merger with comcast to consider anything. And comcast has some of the worst customer service. As for our local stations...they're in a legal battle with the residents of the town near all of their broadcast towers. The townspeople are claiming that all the radio signals are giving them brain cancer and have lobbied to make it illegal for new towers to be put up in that area. And the local stations are unwilling to build new towers in another area where they don't own land (and therefore will have to pay premium prices to buy it). Its a freakin mess over here.

no
i just bought a new TV last year, my previous TV (still working) was my primary set for ~12 years, so i don't plan on buying a new "main" Tv until at least 2010, at which point hdtv or whatever will be standard and cheap

The networks are only available to those in major markets. And you need an antenna or HD cable to get them in HD. Neither Dish nor DTV broadcast any Network channels in HD with the exception of Dish carrying CBS in HD.

There are very few metropolitan areas left that don't have HDTV at this point. Heck, we do here with ABC and PBS and NBC/CBS coming up in the next week or two. Lexington, KY has ABC and CBS going in HD. And nothing wrong with an antenna. Heck, most people can pick up their OTA broadcasts with a $30 antenna from Radio Shack mounted in an attic or some bowtie antenna on top the TV.

We have a 36in Toshiba HD TV(Tube) Nice looking TV, great picture, but atm there isn't much reason to have one except if you have to replace a TV anyhow, just spend the extra money and get the HD rather than a regular one now and an HD later.
I just wish more chanels were offered HD....

I understand that... I was just making the point that Dish does not carry the HD signal from the four OTA networks. 🙂

Somebody here was saying how great Metroid Prime looks on their HDTV
That might have been me. 🙂 Metroid Prime is very impressive in progressive scan mode, and I'm hoping that the upcoming Zelda looks as good.

I purchased a 32" Toshiba HDTV monitor (32HF72) a couple months ago for a shade over $1,000...really nice for a "starter" set. DVDs and the GC have awesome images (component video inputs of course!) and the Comcast HDTV broadcasts (Scientific Atlanta 3100HD receiver) are incredible! I currently have NBC, ABC, HBO and Showtime with Comcast, and I'm hoping that ESPN HD and Discovery HD will be added to the list soon.

If I have any "buyers regret", it's that I wish I could have upgraded to the Toshiba 34" widescreen CRT or 42" RP HDTV. I wanted to stay within a modest budget however so I'm fairly happy with what I have. 🙂
