HDTV. Do you own one yet?

Just take the poll and let us know your intentions in the thread.

I for one am really itching for one but am waiting for prices to come down.

yeah I own one but I'm sorta wishing I hadn't taken the plunge now. I haven't watched any HDTV on it yet since the receiver prices are still so damn high. And there's not too many channels yet. I'd say wait till you can get a GOOD receiver below $200 and have at least 6 HDTV channels in your area before you take the plunge.

No, but I suspect I will within the next six months.

I keep watching them & accumulating my Sony points.

One of these days I'll pull the trigger.

Anybody want a 27" Wega with matching stand?

Works great, has been properly calibrated all it's life so it's in great condition.

If you have an ATI based video card you could get the HDTV adapter, plus there's always progressive scan DVD.

That's what I want one for (DVD), I don't watch TV at all.

Although I must admit, the idea of >DVD quality video over the air is intriguing.

Too bad there's nothing of any value to watch.

Yes, I don't have cable or anything tho. DVDs look a great deal better with progressive on HDTV.

Still tweaking the HTPC after getting a Radeon 8500DV and the component adapter. Powerstrip can be a real b!atch.

Oh yeah, that new XBox I got last night looks good too. 😉

I am also waiting for the prices to drop. I'll probably wait until I'm forced to get one after all of the broadcast channels switch over to HDTV. By then, you'll probably be able to get one for for the price of a regular tube tv now.

I have a component transcoder so I have an HTPC hooked up to it. Its definitely nice. And Xbox rules too. But actual HDTV programming requires a receiver or HDTV card in the computer (the ATI won't cut it). HDTV programming is literally amazing...blows away DVD in every aspect. Go see a demo of the channel HDNET. They've got some incredible HDTV programming.

Nope. Our main TV last year wigged out on us for awhile so I was forced into buying another TV at that time when I was HOPING to get a HDTV this year. We had to settle for a relatively inexpensive 32" TV to hold us over for the next couple years instead - although it's still relatively nice, especially now that we've got satellite. Hopefully, prices will continue to come down even further during that time. We've just got WAY too many other things we need to spend money on right now.

Somebody here was saying how great Metroid Prime looks on their 480p tv.

That's not a reason to buy a whole TV though. Oh and I forgot DVD's! I want one for nice DVD watching.

No. I am waiting for the networks and the FCC to get their act together and figure out what they will be doing with HDTV. That and prices.

Yes: livingroom, basement, familyroom and master bedroom.

The prices of HDTV monitors are not much more than regular high quality TVs for the most part. The extra $600 is for the recievers.

And with how good DVDs look on them, I would have them even if I didn't have access to HDTV channels.

Yup I have one. I also have 9 or 10 HD channels. My local news is in HD too so I see HD every day. 🙂
I wish FOX would get rid of their widescreen 480p crap and go to 1080i. 24 would look so much better. 😉

BTW I use the HDTV receiver Time Warner rents... same price as their non HD digital cable box.

55" Mitsubishi WS-55859 🙂

I watch CSI, CSI: Miami, King of Queens, Yes Dear, Frasier, and lately Kingpin in HD.

if you call up AT&T broadband and ask about HDTV they assume you want normal digital cable. Complete frickin retards.

Yup, DirecTV only has around 5 or 6 HDTV channels and the HDTV receivers would require a kidney donation on my part to afford. So, I will wait until whenever the prices get reasonable on the receivers to get one.

DirecTV has four HDTV channels, and one of those is PPV.

198: HDPPV
199: HDNet
509: HBOHD
543: SHOHD

That's it.

However, the SWEET thing about the DirecTV HDTV tuners from Sony ($799) and Samsung ($599 - hardly a kidney donation) is that they will intergrate your local antenna and cable channels into your program guide. Try that with a non-HDTV DirecTV reciever.

$799 and $599 are still out of my price range. I can't justify that cost for just a few channels. When they get into the $200-$300 range then I will look into buying one.
