HDTach Scores anyone?

I just got my RAID setup and I have nothing to compare my scores to. If anyone could post theirs I'd love to compare hardware and scores. I have an ABIT kt7a-raid with 2 maxtor diamondmax 60 40GB drives in a RAID0 array and a 1.33 ghz athlon.

ugh!!! how does everyone do it?

I have the KT7 raid...i had a thread going about it...anyhow, my CPU utilization for my 2 IBM 75GXPs is around 67%!!! how does everyone get their CPU utilizations to aroun 10-15%

🙁 🙁 🙁

anyhow, just fyi:
im using ZH bios for kt7 (yes i know its not recommended) but it works fine...as far as i know..
and im using the 1.03b drivers along with the 103b bios...4.29 final 4 in 1s...

lemme know what u are using..driver setup..bios..etc..

this is on my current system in my sig, fasttrack 100 with 20 and 15 75gxp. this was taken with adv. size check, not that it really really

matters. taken on a fresh reinstall. currently, it has decresed to 12/65. i dont know why. currently, my raid is full of dv video. =) i guess

the only way to test it is to test it with write enabled (un parititioned)

UGH 67% is a tad high, unless your proc is like a 60mhz duron and you have 4 drives on software raid 😉

Got win9x? Enable DMA. Got win2k? humm, I had the same setup without that problem, just worked right from the start. But in 1-2 hours my kt7-raid auction is ending, sold it and a 1 gig proc + old stuff for $305 already 😱

Full specs are in sig.

Duron 800 @ 933MHz
Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 30.0GB, ATA100, 7200RPM
Windows 2000 SP2
FAT32

My HDTach 2.61 score

I had a few items running in the taskbar (MBM 5.06, Activesync, ICQ) so I guess the CPU utilization could be lower.

My Sandra 2001 score is around 22,000

Ok, I am using the latest beta BIOS from viahardware (v. ZT1.11+)
I use v 1.11.512 of the highpoint drivers
and v 4.31 of the 4 in 1 drivers.

You didn't post any scores BTW...

Shark...now since my read speed is average at 60000 thats better right? I can see you have some sweet access times, how are they so low?

Cause the X15 is SCSI and it has more consistent transfer rates as well.

ahhh! green. ugly! i hope u dont have ur windowslike that..

x15 is scsi. =) 15k rpm. very $$

hmm. 16k stripe = faster access i think. someone can shoot me. i use 16k.

Higher R/W speeds are beneficial for large data transfers, ie A/V editing. IDE stripes are good for that.

I purposely used that lime background because there are a lot of theives on the net that could say it's theirs! 😛

16KB seems to be the sweetspot for ATA disks. The real reason why the x15 has such a consistent graph is because it's a small disk and it finishes the test faster! Also, if the disk you test has essential operating system files such as the paging file, downward spikes are where another program is accessing the disk. No disk is capable of having the heads in two different places at the same time! 🙂

Those new Highpoint drivers should not be used! They create all kinds of problems, namely stttttttttuttttteeeeerrrrinnnggg of your sssssssound when the disk is accessed heavily. Use 1.03B.

<< I'm still seeing flashbacks on my eyeballs >>

hehehe you should see it on a TFT with digital vibrance cranked up! Makes the tiffany glow like it's got 200 curies of tritium! 🙂

Cheers!

Thanks shark,

I just got this system built so I haven't plugged in the speakers yet. If I run into that I will back the drivers off.

<< BTW, I run a 16K stripe size...John, how did you know? >>

Not only am I "elite", but I am also psychic. 😉

<< great seek times on the x15. Can you feel a big diff over IDE (personally I usually can't). However, why is your cpu utilz so high, shouldn't it be close to 0? (Im not familiar with how HDTach tests the HD) >>

No, I cannot "feel" the difference either. It could be the system has 1536MB of RAM and the disk cache is very large making mechanical characteristics between drives more difficult to distinguish.

The CPU utilisation score in HD Tach is utterly worthless IMO. Different disks have different maximum STR's. Unlike WB99, this program doesn't normalise the data rate. Therefore you cannot trust the cpu utilisation score. Furthermore, AMD systems fare poorly compared to similar Intel based systems. This is a known issue with their metric.

<< Not only am I "elite", but I am also psychic. >>

Got some lottery numbers for me, John? 😉

Cheers!
