HDTach results for 60GXP

I ran HDTach on my new 40GB IBM 60GXP and I'm not sure the results are right.

Sequential speed, start: 41900kps
Sequential speed, end: 18800kps
Access time: 12.6ms
Burst speed: 80+ Mb/sec (off the chart)
CPU: 13.5%

The ending sequential speed seems a bit low...less than half of the starting track speed? Everything else looks OK. I'm using a Promise Ultra100 TX2 card.

sweet! My raid0 Seagate 15.3GB 5400 rpm hard drives perform a little better than yours🙂

I wish I had that raid setup. Your ending sequential speed is just less than half of your start speed, which is probably correct.

Yea, I looked at the results on storagereview and my drive performs within reason of their test unit. It just seems weird because my Fireball Plus LM got results from 26000kps to 17500kps, which is a much tighter range. And I think my Fireball got seek times under 12ms.

<< yumm.. hardware raid 🙂

that 13.5% cpu usage seems a bit high don't it?

I grabbed an Adaptec AAA-UDMA RAID card cheap and its sweet. Well, as nice as you can get without running SCSI. I have 4 DMA66 27gb 7200rpm 2mb cache drives runnning RAID 5 for 76gb striped and fault tolerant. The controller has its own processor and RAM like the fancy SCSI RAID cards. The entire setup was about the price of just a SCSI RAID controller. Its not business class but its fast and cheap.

ummmm...
unless I'm badly mistaken, this boy here is only running one drive on the second generation Promise ATA100 card that supports the new PCI bus specs (they call it tx-2)

I agree. Some people get confused, and think the ultra 100 card is the fasttrack card.

haha, you're right.. i saw tx2.... missed the ultra part 🙂

btw, anyone have something like HDTach for win2k.. specifically made for HD testing? (for free that is... i know the registered versoin of HDTach supports it).

wtf my burst speeds are way to slow. I have a Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 60 40GB and I'm only getting burst of 50mb/s, that seems a little low. I'm using the controller on my Iwill KK266.

<< hey John, you're looking sort of ...different! 😀 >>

Yea......I put on a few pounds, fell asleep at the beach, and shaved my head. 😉
