Went to Install screen and than BAAAAAAAAAAAAAM!
i only have like 32 mb to Format and partition.
so whats going on here. Do i put a magnet to the computer

Are you sure it said 32 MB and not 32 GB? You are limited to 32 GB partitions if you choose FAT32, but you should be able to create a full 250 GB partition in NTFS (assuming you have SP1 or greater slipstreamed on your XP CD).

Ask the administrator. You shouldn't be doing this kind of work anyhow.

what kind of work? Getting my Computer to reconize 250gb HD?
what are you talking about?

Is there a Difference between Corp and Pro?

if there is.. i meant to say pro.

im new to this XP thing, and i heard you talking about how you have XP Corp n0cmonkey
so i wanted to be cool like you and just put in the CORP part of it. Not really knowing what the difference is.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

yo Mr.Chad
it was GB not MB

another question for the genius:
what if i installed it as 35gb
than installed SP1
would it show the rest of the mem? or is this something i have to do when i first Install XP PROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoo

it would probablly be best to slipstreaming my XP than installing ..
you said it continueously to me... but i thought my PURCHASED XP PRO cd
had sp1 , or what not.;)

No, you'll need to get it to recognize the full capacity prior to installing XP. Try slipstreaming SP2 and use that CD to install XP. You can use nlite to integrate both SP2 and your SATA drivers.

That gives me a cruel idea for an office prank... use DFT to set the soft LBA cap setting on the HD to something tiny, like 32MB.

okay this forum was a HUGE help. BUTT!
.....
nothing worked for me.
I tried:
* the raid f6 method
*Pci Card (as directed in the manual that came in with the HD)
*Slipstream method.
*Formating the HD to zero and tring to partition it once again x3 times.
*Sp2 Service pack installed on old HD than plugging in my new HD.
buTT no result.

The wierd thing is. If i disconnect everything and Plug the HD into the Mobo (not the pci) it reads the HD as something like 137gb....
but im still fallig 113gb short or so.

This could be one of those "Prolem exsist between keyboard and the stoopiD lewser aka User." but that would mean im stoopid. and that coulndt be right. :p

so help me out. What else could it be?

(please lets dont side track and get all tekniqaL about my typeing and Spellignz)

What reads the HD as 137 GB? You should not need to use a PCI controller card to connect your HD. You need to be a bit clearer about what you are doing exactly and where you are reading these numbers. If you can take some pictures with a digicam, that may help.

something like that.....
its not the exact numbersbut if i use the pci card it reads it at 37gb or SO..
and if i unplug it from the pci to the mobo directly the computer reconizes it as 130 somethin gb....

main issue is why it wont read at 250gb.
can i only use this HD as a storage space? and not a bootable?

You're not answering my question. What is "it"? Windows setup? The initial bootup screen (i.e. the BIOS)?

It = Computer

meaning Bios, Windows, MaxBlaster HD Application (The Program the HD came with)
and all of the above.. when one says 37gb all of them say the same..

p.s.
Thanx for the patients you hold on this forum.

1. You don't need the MaxBlaster software. If you installed it, remove it.
2. If you created a partition in Windows prior to slipstreaming SP2, you'll see a 137 GB partition. You need to delete that partition within Windows setup (the 'D' key when it asks you to select an install location) and create a new one. If SP2 is integrated on your setup CD, you should be able to create a full 250 GB partition. Here's a nice step-by-step guide with screenshots

I honestly don't know what to tell you. From your description(s) of the problem, I've pretty much exhausted my options.

1. You should not need MaxBlaster installed on your drive, nor should you need a third-party SATA controller card.
2. Since the drive is SATA, jumper settings on the drive should not be the issue.
3. You have SP2 slipstreamed on your install disc, and Windows setup IS detecting the drive, but for some reason you can't see the full 250 GB capacity. I don't understand why this is. If your OS is not legit, bite the bullet and buy yourself a legitimate copy. If you're a college student, you should be able to get a cheap copy from your university.
4. You can try updating your BIOS, but I'm not sure if that will have any effect on this issue. Nonetheless, it's a good idea to be running the latest BIOS anyway.

I still think there is lots missing.

Model of mobo, hd, pci controller card.

If in fact you did slipstream sp2 with your install disk you can also slipstream the sata drivers to load as well...

Bios updates can actually address many many problems. Basically everything you see in bios setup can have a potential fix.
