HDMI help

Hi. I just plugged my laptop into my TV via HDMI and I get video. For some reason the max resolution it will go to is 720p while my TV supports 1080p.

Also there is no sound. No sound device is detected in playback devices. What am I doing wrong here?

I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate on a laptop that has an Nvidia 330M

You might have to hit Windows+P, to switch the video drivers into "Projector" mode. Otherwise, it just clones your laptop desktop image, and won't go any higher in resolution than your laptop's built-in screen.

I think the problem here is the TV. It's an LG and windows 7 doesn't detect it. I tried on another TV and it works fine. I can't seem to find drivers. Now what?

Ok this is weird. It works now. And so does the sound. Except the computer thinks the TV is bigger than it actuallly is. Same on all TVs. So some of the screen space is outside the TV. Same with all resolutions. Now?

Overscan of HDTV in HDMI mode is a common problem. Hopefully your graphics chipset has a control panel that includes an option to compensate.

Under Win7 with HDMI, my ATI Radeon card has controls to change the image size. NVidia may have such an option, too. Last time I checked, my motherboard with built-in Intel 4500 video didn't have this an option.

Otherwise, maybe your TV has options to change overscan.
