HDMI / DVI question.

My older Sony tv has a DVI input.

The HD video camera I want to buy has HDMI output.

Is there a way to connect this camera to my tv through the DVI connection? (i.e. split the HDMI output into DVI and audio, then connect them to the corresponding jacks on the tv)

If I do this, will I lose any audio/video quality?

You should be able to get the video working without a problem, I haven't seen anything that will split out the audio. I'm not even 100% sure that the audio component of HDMI is S/PDIF.

Maybe a cheap HDMI receiver?

Viper GTS

Check monoprice.com for the cable. I went from my htpc (dvi out) to my tv (hdmi in) and the quality is great.

EDIT: The cable I got was 15' for about $10 shipped. And it got to me (CT) from CA in about 3 days.... standard shipping.

pretty sure ive seen those cables @ BB for the meager price of a small fortune or a yacht either way they win!

You should have 0 problems with the video, the sound is another story. I do not know of a way to branch HDMI into a video and an audio feed (short of buying an HDMI receiver).

Check here, if anyone knows how to they probably browse there.

Sony HDR-HC7*

The camera also has component out, but I would like to use the DVI connection if possible.

I think the sound might be a non-issue if the camera has simultaneous HDMI / component out.

*This camera is not available yet - it is set to be released in mid February.
