HDMI cables?

This guy told me that all HDMI cables are the same so there is no point of paying more for gold plated ones. Is that true? What should I be looking for when buying?

This is where I go for pretty much all of the cables. I have been using a 25ft dvi to hdmi along with various lengths of hdmi cables for several months and they all work great.
 
The gold platted connectors can help to minimize resistance in the connection. But its no good if the cables themself are on the small side of the specifications for the cable. Thin wires means more resistance which can translate into poor signal quality.
 
Because you're working with digital and not analog - the data is either there or it's not. There is no signal fade like you would expect with analog cables. I have several of the $10-$15 ones from Newegg and they work perfect. Keep it at six feet and the cheap HDMI cables will do fine even @ 1080p. Length can become an issue if you want to go cheap and long, as packets will get dropped and you end up with pixilation or no no picture at all.
 
what about the diff guages (awgs) of cables? which one would be good for a ps3 and a 1080p HDTV for playing games and watching blu rays?
 
28awg is perfect for pretty much everything. The 24awg is pretty thick and not easy to maneuver around.
