I just purchased a nice TV and decided to FINALLY upgrade my Dish to HD from standard so i have no experience with these cables. What is everyone's general opinion of Monoprice's HDMI cables? I need 3 of them and was wondering if a $4 HDMI would suffice for my 2 dishnetwork receivers as well as for 1 HTPC.
 
Yup. Their stuff is generally top-notch. I'd say most of my A/V anc computer cables probably came from there. Never had a problem.
 
Monoprice is the way to go. No reason to pay more, except perhaps for aesthetic reasons.

I have to say, their new flat 24AWG cables look neat, too...
 
I redid my home theater area last summer, and bought all my cables from monoprice. I used hdmi, speaker wire, component, wall plates, TV wall bracket, etc.. Never had a single issue with anything i got from them.
 
I splurged and got the HDMI 1.3a CL2 Rated (In-Wall Installation) Cable (24AWG) w/ Net Jacket - 3ft (Gold Plated Connectors) (Product ID 3991) for my PS3. This cable is super beefy and well worth the money. The built quality is much more superior to any overprice crap you find at Best Buy. Normally, 28AWG is fine for everything and is more flexible.
 
good to hear all the positive replies about monoprice...i just dropped about 50 bucks on a few different items
 
As a related aside, with a purely digital cable like an HDMI cable, is it true that as long as it works, the cable itself can't have an impact on image and sound quality? Is there any difference between a $4 HDMI cable and a $1,000 one, as long as they both work?

Yes there is a difference.

This is the biggest misconception among those that don't understand digital transport. It's not a "works or doesn't work" thing. Digital is analog after all.

The cable can absolutely impact image and sound quality. As long as the cable is up to the task at hand then you're good to go. It doesn't have to be expensive to do what it is needed.
 
Anyone know how the Belkin Pure AV HDMI cable compares to those at Monoprice, and more specifically the ones from Blue Jeans Cable? (6 ft. length)

 
HDMI cables can certainly be not up to par and produce artifacts, as some of those transmission bits can be lost or corrupted (eg, 0s turning to 1s, missing bits, etc.). But Monoprice cables are completely adequate for this task, and I have happily used them for years.
