If my HDD is full, would this cause my computer be overly slow?

And FYI, I just got sat down in front of my computer and noticed that I have 200gb left of my 500gb hard drive and I have a lot of apps(steam, orgin, etc.) that boot when I turn on my computer.

Seriously? You shared, this issue, as you see it, is nothing new and was even present before you installed Anti virus, which, I have to believe, you did immediately after the build was finished.

RIGHT?

500 GB Seagate....HOW FULL? Infinite avi files, right? And ginormous number of junk files? Drives require 20% of free space to be defragged, yes?

Control Panel>Admin Tools>Storage. Focus and give us percentages.

I will probably just have to take it somewhere when I get a SSD and transfer the OS.

I have no idea how to defrag and all that other stuff.

Having 200 GB free space is fine. As far as the boot items, are they things you installed? Have you launched msconfig before?

Just caught yr FYI....very helpful.

YES! AGAIN... EDIT YR START MENU!!!! Including scheduled tasks, etc.

I use Perfect Disk, but for openers use the onboard defragger in W7.

Yeah there steam and orgin. I know I can probably have them so they don't auto boots which I am about to do.

As for the other stuff, not sure how to do it.

Yes I built it, doesn't mean I am a computer expert.

I hear U......but I mean it, the learning curve rocks! Think of how fierce and independent you will feel increasingly!!!

http://jkdefrag-gui.en.softonic.com/

Get the above, it's free, it's adorable and it works. No, the interface is not corrupted. It will even do a kinda of smart placement for you.

But first, go get free version of CCleaner and run it.

http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner

Pls make sure you get the free version.

Pls report back.

I have to do it in a bit, I am installing WoW right now.

I honestly do not know if my great and wonderful internet(sarcasm) would like me downloading two things.

No viruses right? Every time I download from those kinds of sites I get a virus.

And I do have webroot and it wold me the download was a threat to my computer.

Listen, if you chose the components for this rig intelligently and put them together, means U have a brain, OK? think of the infinite learning curve as CARDIO FOR that BRAIN.

And, if you choose a decent anti virus app (I luv Norton IS, recent builds are off the hook amazing), and there are very good FREE ones available with fine detection rates and good engines, also very good free firewalls, also Malwarebytes has a free version as does Superantispy (I use it).....a good free firewall, there is no reason you should ever get infected!!!!

Or, more important, have to be hobbled by fear that is inevitable!

Admit it, U already gettin a little excited, right?:)

Webroot is gone. Getting trendmicro on this. Trendmicro has never failed me and it works great.

Webroot started telling me xfire and orgin were a threat to my computer.

I don't really know trend micro vs norton.

I usually just go trendmicro, plus it was free with my laptop so I still have 2 licenses left with it.

First, there is no free Norton, anymore than there are free Ferrari F-40s. But there are really decent free protection apps. Next, I learn every day, forget right here in last days. Many people here know faaaaar more than I! If not most!!!

When choosing a new app, and each build is different, things change, good to do a search and find out how a given app is reviewed/rated.

YOU.....are moving, starting to earn yr way, from the passenger seat of yr cyberlife.....into the driver's seat! Yay!

So I have anti virus and it still says that site is a threat and I know trend is better then webroot.

I have no clue if that is a false positive or not.

But, remember, search engines are our FRIENDS. I stopped using all things Google over a year go....sneaky monkey/intrusive too much (including Chrome). Now, I use only IXQuick......which just took me to this:

http://freebies.about.com/od/computerfreebies/tp/best-free-antivirus.htm
And PLS GET FREE CCLEANER!!!!

All this installing and uninstalling leaves glut/junk, and CC has very safe reg cleaner!

Bet you have nine bazillion tracking cookies too. GET FREE VERSION OF SUPERANTISPY!!!!!
http://www.superantispyware.com/download.html
I like Revo uninstaller Pro......amazing and gets rid of all residue, but again many amazing freewares out there for you to choose from in all categories!!!!
___________________________________________________
PS/Edit: Just remembered, YOU CAN USE THE "tools" tab in CCleaner to edit yr start menu!!!!!!

Bingo. For whatever it's worth, I ditto every query in the above.
________________________________________________________________________

I have Glary Utilities (among infinite other apps I have chosen carefully).
Just opened it, chose overview tab. Right in that interface it says my boot time is 32 seconds. Then, it says “your bootime is fast, 73% of users are slower.”

My boot time is 2 minutes, 28 seconds and 1% is slower.

OMG.....OK, you were in no way hallucinating, ESP GIVEN your RIG'S SPECS!!!!!

NOW......DID YOU GET ANY OF THE LITTLE FREEWARES I LINKED YOU TO? If so, did U run them and start divesting yr Seagate of its misery clutter?

Did you use CCleaner in all its conservative wonder....build by build? did U use its "tools' tab to edit yr start menu?

Did The Pope get married yet? :sneaky:

Try not to wait for that, OK? :p

When you familiarize yrself with yr new freewares and use them, and fall in love wit dem....these initial ones or related ones.....we can move past that and use either SMART technology (as is in free Speedfan, so fast, so invaluable re the data it produces INSTANTLY).....or, far longer Seagate diagnostics (free) to check out the health of yr drive.

I am very excited for you cause YOU ON DA MOVE!!!!!!!!!:biggrin:

Correction: forget Queen, play the track from the Purina Pro plan spot: GREAT, GREAT (DOWNLOADED Both THE SPOT AND THE TRACK, OF COURSE). Forget Glary, U now need/DESERVE a link to this! Hold on.......

THIS IS THE BALLAD ONE....NEED TO FIND THE UPTEMPO one for you so U can get up and dance and feel it and be proud.....hold on....
