ok, heres my problem. a while back my house was robbed, and they nabbed most of my pcs components, but left the hdd. i bought a new machine and my hdd has been laying around ever since. i would like to get some games off that hdd the were stolen in the robbery, such as quake 3 and soldier of fortune. i cant just throw the hd in my machine because i am using it to build another machine for someone. if i can do this, how would i go about it??? thank you for your help

ok, i guess i wasnt very clear. my question is that dont games that are installed to a hard drive keeps files in other places than the game directory? therefore you would have to copy all the right files over... or am i just being completely dense...

*most* games don't mess with the registry or add windows system files... so you're probably OK just copying over.

well alot of the microsoft and ea games make extensive use of the registry. also expect big ticket games to have some kind of reg entry.

Wow...these thieves had the knowledge to take apart a computer and leave the harddrive? Or were the components already separate when they were jacked?

Wouldnt just grabing the whole case & run be faster than taking a screwdriver & removing components ?

Just copy the games on the new HD and Reinstall on top of the game if you need to have reg settings, this way you'll keep all your saved games intact.

It would be hilarious if you were a theif and you stole all the components out of a computer and left the case closed with no sign of breaking in. The owner would go to try and turn his comp on and nothing!
