HDD software - noob question

In my 5 years of basic PC building, I have never installed the HDD software on the cd that comes with the HDD. I am perhaps missing something by not installing it?
 
Not necessary normally. Most HDDs come with drive analysis software and cloning software to facilitate deployment.
 
Something to monitor the SMART status of your drive is a good idea, I'm still surprised that Windows doesn't come with anything to do that out of the box.
