HDD question

I recently a IBM 40 deskstar HDD(RMA), the harddrive was working fine for about a month. Then suddenly, when i tried to access the drive, the whole computer starts to slow down and then to computer crashed. Could it be bad harddrive? I disconnected the drive from my computer and now my computer is running fine, or is there a way to diagonose the problem?

You recently ?????? a IBM 40 Deskstar? And yes the DeskStar line is known for it's high failure rate.

well i meant i really recived a deskstar , i think i should just rma it back to ibm, altho it takes them months to mail back the drive, but i think i have to do it
