HDD problems. New development

couple days ago XP Crashed I thought it was Just FireFox at the Time. It stopped Responding and I had to hard power down the computer, I tired then So went to bed.

Yesterday I turn it on and It fails to detect Either of my HDD's

I Unplugged the 80gb and still fails to detect plugged in the 80 and disconnected the 250 the 80 detects perfectly, plugged the 250 back in and it detects but wont boot, so I boot of the Vista Beta Install I have on the 80 and it automatically goes into CHKDSK, finds and repairs some corrupted files. Reboot and XP off the 250 Boots just fine, but is acting wierd.

I downloaded and use the diagnostic program from WD and it errers on the quick test but passes the extended text, Windows still acting funny however.

So I re-imaged the drive with a Ghost bachup from 6-12, it passes both tests on the Diag and seem fine now.

Think It was just XP Fubarring itself or do I have HDD problems?

OK wierd, things here.

Last night I left my computer on the character selection screen of a game, as I was doing some other things. happened to look over at it after awhile and there was a solid Blue screen, NOT a BSOD just asolid blue screen. had Hard Powerdown the computer.

and Again on reboot computer was Not detecting the HDD's either of em. So today, I start tryign to get it to detect, again it detects the 80gb solo np problem but fails on the 250, both solo and with both plugged in. on a off chance I switched the sata ports they are plugged into. 250 Detects and boots flawlessly and seems to be working fine.

I have Chaintech VNF3-250 MB

Is it possible for a single sata port to go bad? there doesn't seem to be any physical damage. Since they are both off the chipset controller I would not think so. but windows is runnign great now and i cant get any diagnostics to fail..;(

Try switching the cables or try one cable at a time. One cable coud be going bad. That would be an easy problem to fix.
