I have a hard drive that got a S.M.A.R.T. status bad reading at bootup. It does still work, but probably won't for long. It is under warranty and I am getting an advanced RMA for it. It will be same model and size hard drive that they replace it with. Is there any free software that will do a bit by bit transfer of all the data and stuff so I don't have to reload Windows and everything? I've never tried this so I don't know what works and what doesn't.

Go to the manufactures website and they should have a free software utility to do the copying for you. If you feel like spending a little money, Norton Ghost is a great product. ;)

Norton Ghost or Drive Image will work, and you can use them as a backup utility too. I use Drive Image for backup but have always used the free migration utility that new hdd's have. They usually are a very fast and painless way to partition and migrate the OS and files.
