HDD load/unload technology

I have 5 hard drives in my system right now that utilize a glass/substrate media, and therefore use head load/unload technology. I have one new harddrive from seagate with 60GB platters (120GB) it doesnt have head unload/load. Have harddrives shifted away from this technology? what replacement methods are there for keeping r/w heads from sticking to incresingly smooth media?
Personaly I love the load/unload. I dropped my IBM SCSI drive onto concrete from 4 feet. It bounced twice. It works fine still. Had the head been on the platter at the time, I know it'd be toast.
