HDD LED

Bobsled

Senior member
Sorry about the noob question, first time using SATAII HDDs. Anyway, will the case's front panel HDD LED work for SATA HDDs or is that strictly an IDE HDD thing??

TIA,

Rob

As long as your controllers are built into your mobo, the HDD LED should work for any drive connected to the mobo connectors. It certainly works on my ancient Abit KW7 for both PATA and SATA drives.

Two of them actually, A Gigabyte DS3 (Rev 3.3) for my friend and my DFI Infinity P965-S (after my friend's build).

Thanks, his Antec case as 3 HDD LED connectors, I must have selected the wrong one (you can only connect 1, so it better be the right one).

Any of the HDD LED connectors from the case should work unless it is defective or polarity reversed. Colored wire generally goes on the + pin, the black or white other wire goes to ground (-) (but I've seen the LED connectors wired backwards too) - try it either way, won't hurt anything. Some HDDs have their own LED connectors so you can hook them direct if you have several. Which Antec case does he have that has three HDD LED pigtails?
