hdd install problem

I seem to find a new problem for such an easy task hehe.

I just installed a second hdd (maxtor 30gb). I placed it in the primary slave position. When I first booted up I went and created a new single 30gb partition in winxp and proceded to format. Quick format failed. Regular format failed at 91%. I proceded to repeat this process to see if it was just bad luck. Same results.

I rebooted. Now when I go into bios I get this message: "Not Installed" when i auto detect all hdd's. In winxp the hdd is also not showing up.

I'm running a 1600xp amd with 512ddr ram. Help!

check your cables (unplug and re-plug everything) and also double check your jumper settings

that would be a good start

can you hear the drive "spin up" when the computer is started?

It's a long shot but what if you set both drives to cable select instead of master and slave? Compaq's use this configuration.
