HDD fails self test

My laptop has been acting different lately and so I checked out the system BIOS and ran the HDD self test. During both the quick and comprehensive test it came back with an error and did not finish. Other than the fact that it takes 3 and a half minutes to completely boot up, it gives no concrete signs of being bad. Any ideas as to what the problem could be? At this point I'n going to take it into Best Buy tomorrow to have it checked out under my service plan. Was hoping to be able to give them a better idea as to what is going on so that the whole process doesnt take quite as long...
