i posted this in "general hardware" but i wanted to increase my potential audience:

from what i understand hard drives work on electro-magnetism. i heard that a strong enough magnet might damage the data on the hard drive. if i have to transport just a hard drive (nothing more) from one location to another, or have to store it somewhere other than inside a computer, are there any hdd cases made for storage purposes that will protect it from unwanted magnetic interference?

thanx

You can get static free bags for storing electronic equipment, but as for protection from magnetism, it's a lot more complicated. Why are you afraid of magnetic interference for transporting HDs?

Degrador & Blain,

thanx for responding to my question. To answer degrador's question: i'm not _that_ afraid of losing the data from magnetic interference as it has never happened to me before, but i wanted to make sure i didn't lose data just in case.

also, blain's link was very helpful... i guess there's no need to worry about that then. i guess i'll stick to the static free bags.

thanx guys
