hdd case

hi all

from what i understand hard drives work on electro-magnetism. i heard that a strong enough magnet might damage the data on the hard drive. if i have to transport just a hard drive (nothing more) from one location to another, or have to store it somewhere other than inside a computer, are there any hdd cases made for storage purposes that will protect it from unwanted magnetic interference?

thanx

Yes, the original wrapping it came with is probably the best defense for electromagnetic interference and static electricity. You might want to pad the hdd on a small bag so it doesn't get damaged by shock.

You shouldn't have to worry at all. It'd take a helluva magnetic field to cause data loss, which you will not encounter simply transporting the drive. Taking precautions with an ESD bag might be a good idea, though, but it still isn't entirely necessary if you are careful handling the drive.
