HDD cannot be detected

I tried an seagate barracuja ata 40G with different mobos and systems, but the bios cannot detect it. I also tried to use an external enclosure. I can hear the HDD running and have no way to detect it in the system. Any solution?

If you have tried the hdd in several systems, are you sure your jumper settings on the hdd are correct? Sometimes the little diagram on the drive is upside down to confuse the uninitiated.

It is because you are using the Mexican version "Barracuja" instead of the American version "Barracuda". 🙂

That was a cheesy joke I just made!

If the settings are correct
and
if the cables and connections are good
and
if the drive was not initially installed with 3rd party software
and
if the BIOS does not detect the drive
then
then
most probably the drive is no good, even if it is spinning.

(unless something else is happening that you are not telling us about)
