HDCP Monitor concerns

I'm going to buy a new monitor soon, specifically a 19" LCD gray-to-gray 3-4ms (was looking at viewsonic VX924), but I want to have HDCP compatability (Windows Vista). Are there any options out there with this to consider? How concerned should I be. I don't have a great deal of knowledge on this subject, and googles searches haven't helped me to figure out hoa it relates to LCD monitors. thanks.
 
Come back in a year when vista is about to come out, no one knows when hdcp or driver port compliant hardware is coming out.

I believe it means any protected content like movies will not play, or will only play downgraded to 480i resolution instead of 720p or 1080i.

Dude, don't worry about little things like that. When Vista comes out, I'm sure there will be a hack that magically makes a non HDCP compliant monitor into a compliant HDCP monitor. 🙂 Fvck the MPAA!

It's one thing to be unable to have full quality playback on Vista w/o the needed HDCP compliant monitor...

What's worse though is that with XP, you won't be able to play this content at all...:frown:

Thank god for crackers & hackers is all i have to say!

Dude, it's not MS fault. The freakin' MPAA is setting the rules. If MS wants to be able to play high res HD movies released by the studios on their OS, they have to play by the MPAA's rules. You want to put the blame on someone, put the blame SOLEY on the MPAA! The Linux community ain't gonna be able to play HDCP content on their OSes either unless they develop a hack. And you know what they say, "necessity is the mother of innovation." I believe the hack will come REALLY quick as the Linux guys I'm sure would LOVE to watch HD content at full resolution. 😉

I honestly don't have much against their OSes at all 🙂

Sorry man, just the talk of HDCP pisses me off to no end. :|

 
The really bad thing is that if you do not have a tv with a HDCP compliant dvi you will not be able to play hd content from a hd disk player.

... at 720p / 1080i. If the player has s-video out at 480i and possibly component at 480p then those will work.

So unless I shell out to upgrade my TV, I will be paying money for functionality that I won't use? This is retarded. I hate the MPAA.
 
why on earth would u want hdcp on a square shaped monitor without enough vertical lines to view 1080p anyway...

remember hdcp is not gunna be for games and stuff like that... only for hollywood movies most likely.

Considering that a lot of HTPCs are running Linux, I could see this being a big issue down the road.

Uh, isn't that his point? A square shaped monitor are not the wide screen lcd's. He is saying that the 1080P will be for widescreen Hollywood HD/Blue Ray DVD's so HDCP isn't necessary for 4:3 square monitors because no one will buy them in the future. Genius 🙂
