Just got a temporary DVD player to replace my old dead Apex, and it supports HDCD. Has anyone here listened to any or have any experiences with HDCDs to share? I do believe this is the first time I've heard of it, and did a little looking around in google, but was hoping maybe someone would be able to impart some first-person knowledge of them.

Isn't the newest Tool album a HDCD? All I know is when you pop it in media player, the HD icon shows up. It definatley sounds clean as hell, but dunno if theres a *major* difference or not, as I listened through 2.1 computer speakers.

Guess I'll just have to bite the bullet and get a couple to check out. It's odd; if you search for HDCD on Amazon, there's all of 12 results. I think most all of the ones listed on eBay are japanese imports. I'll probably start out with some Pink Floyd since I've already got the plain old CDs for those, and work from there.

There aren't a lot of them, and yeah, it's just a higher bitrate giving you supposedly more info than a standard CD. I listen to some occasionally at work, but you can't go out of your way looking for them, as there just aren't enough.
