HD6850/HD6870 Overclocking thread

Lonyo

Lifer
Figured I would make a thread for people who have overclocked their HD6800 cards.
Plus as and when we get better tools (e.g. voltage control) it might be useful.

Model: Sapphire HD6850 (regular)
Stock speeds: 775/1000
Overclock: 850/1055
Tool(s): CCC
Voltage: Stock (Unknown)
Fan: Auto

Not pushed it beyond any of those settings. Seems stable enough in games.

I'm having issues with the 10.10c driver and seeing higher o/c settings in CCC. What's up with that?

I'm on 10.10b and seeing 850/1200, but downloading 10.10c to see if that does more than 850, since other people seem to have higher limits than me (like you and WaTaGuMp)

No, I'm saying that I'm not seeing higher O/C settings after 10.10c. I thought it opened up higher OC settings.

Oh, my bad. Didn't understand. Yeah, did nothing for me either, 10.10b to 10.10c I'm still at 850/1200.

What model/manufacturer is your card?

*IF* the max on CCC is 850mhz (caps out option wise), try a differnt program to set speeds with. Like the MSI afterburner or something simular.

Pretty sure they already know that. I think its more of a they want to know why certain people cant get over 850 in the CCC. I had Afterburner already downloaded figuring I was going to need it.

Will you get 6870 performance with an o/c'd 6850? Or are there more differences than just the clock speeds?

You need about 1150 on the core to = a 5870.🙁 pretty impossible.
Even a 6870 @ 972 cant beat a 5870.

Edit:sorry I read 5870. Yes a 6850 @ 1010 core = a 6870

6870 has more SPs. 1120 vs. 960. So it's not just clockspeed difference. VRAM speed is also different@stock but I think they use the same chips so you can oc them equally, in theory.

CCC won't do over 850MHz. Afterburner will if you enable unofficial overclocking in MSIAfterburner.cfg in your C:\Program Files (x86)\MSI Afterburner folder or where ever you installed it.

I'm sitting at 930/1080 and it seems relatively stable. Some random game benches, 3DMark06, and 20 mins of Furmark didn't give me problems. 950 had some artifacts and 940 crashed my display drivers.

Bumped my OC up a bit, still stock voltage, now at 950/1140

benchmarks 🙂 pics or it didnt happend (jk) but would be nice.
Getting a 6850 to 950 core stable... pretty darn nice overclock there.
How much volt do you need to give it to reach 1ghz?

I ran Unigine right above a few posts. Bumping it up didn't change enough to warrant putting another benchmark up. I gained 1 FPS, min stayed the same and gained about 3 FPS on the max. I don't plan on trying for 1k since I don't want to add voltage.

Very nice OC there WaTaGuMp. I'm aiming for an Asus 6850 as well for my new build, but they're never in stock.
