Sweet, will go try these out now.

The 8.7 is the exact same driver as the leaked 8.7 There I was hoping the glitches in Mass Effect would disappear... Here's to another month of waiting.

EDIT: Same or lower as it didn't allow me to 'update' the device driver to 8.7.

I experience no such problem with Mass Effect, if you are referring to a shadow clipping problem, that can be fixed with an ini tweak, have a look at the Mass Effect forums- it's Biowares problem.

Oohhh I am curious. I notice a VERY bad glitch with Mass Effect, the faces will have very weird "shadows" if you will. A lot of crap that makes it look terrible.

Crysis still has TONS of bugs though. No scaling for one. :(

X_X If these are the same 8.7 drivers as the leaked, I can't use. Everytime I tried installing them, it gave me an error about not detecting my cards because they weren't ATI cards. >_> So freaking stupid.

Have a look at this thread for more info on the Mass Effect shadows, seems you need to change the variable DepthBias=0.030000

It also sounds like you may have conflicts, do a spyware scan and make sure when you install new drivers you uninstall the old ones and then run Driversweeper

i just upgraded the display driver without re downloading the CCC software and my profile fan tweak works fine.

after the restart TechPowerup GPU-Z shows 38% fan running which is where i left it

1. I am planning to buy 4870 1GB this week or I might buy 4870X2 if i can wait, can anybody post some benchies with these new drivers?

2. Do I have to update bios for 4870?

3. I read in other forum that if you overclock this card in Vista 64bit the system automatically reboots and goes into a infinite loop..is this true? or is this a PSU issue?

That is an odd issue.

Vista 64 here and I run at 790/1000 all of the time. No hassles in 8.6, 8.6 hotfix or 8.7 full.

Just upgraded to the 8.7s from the 8.6 hotfix. All I had to do to get my profile tweak to work again was unlock Overdrive and activate the profile. Not exactly painful, but a minor inconvenience.

My 3Dmark 06 score went up by about 200 points, but I haven't ran any other tests yet.

Thanks Sylvanas for the link! I tried tweaking the .ini files but to no avail, I still find the shadows disturbingly distracting, especially during conversations. Turning Dynamic Shadows off solves that though. So no biggie.

Got 100-ish points more in 3D Vantage (got around H5380). Dunno bout 3Dmark06 bwefore, now I'm getting 14200-ish. Games work nice so it's all cool.

One gripe though, the CCC doesn't seem to work, I get some "... assembley... MOM.Implementation..." error (those words I remember :p). Using the one from Cat 8.6s and it's all cool, so no problem here either :)

I have a 4850 with the second DVI port flickering issue. I was thinking about trying out a 4870 instead. Does anyone know if the problem is on 4870's as well???

As for it, It seems to improve the flickering problem when overclocking on DVI port 2. I'll do some more testing tonight.

Correction, there are still flickering problems with dual monitors and overclocking with both the MSI bios and visiontek bios. :(

This shit needs to be fixed.

So.. you are overclocking to a flashed card and you think that AMD should fix your problem?

The overdrive capability is a part of the driver package. I flashed the card in an attempt to fix AMD's problem of a flickering second DVI port. AMD should fix their own problems with their cards they sell to me.

Seems like a driver fix could easily resolve the fan issues on the 4870 though. I'm no programmer, but it seems like a fairly simple 'fix' for the fan would be to have the the fan spin to x% if the GPU temperature reaches y, x+5% if GPU temp reaches y+5, etc.

lol, I downloaded the drivers from the link, and it wouldn't install. Took me a minute to realize they were for XP and I'm running Vista 64 :D

I can compare the fixed 8.5's that came on the driver CDs to these new 8.7s soon.

*Edit*
Well, as far as Crysis goes, there were no performance changes.

1280x960 all settings medium, shader quality high, 4xAA 8xAF, DX9.
"Ice" level aka the beginning of the Exodus level.

Modified 8.5's - 19/27.6/40fps
Official 8.7's - 15/27.5/46fps

What is the current BIOS for the 4870 cards? I've seen the ASUS TOP BIOS thread but have also seen some users have problems afterwards. I have yet to see proof that any vendor has updated their BIOS nor have I seen any of those BIOS updates posted to any Official Vendor sites.

Is the broken PowerPlay feature related to the HIGH Idle temps? I for one am not doing any profile fan hack because its silly that the board vendors can't come up with a better and more optimal fan speed profile at the driver/bios level.

I guess I'll just have to wait to purchase a bit longer
