HD4770 overclocking benchmarks

It looks like comparing all models OCed, 4770 is the best choice even better than 4850.

If they bump the 4770 up to 800SP it will be a killer card for $100.

669MHz on a 4850 is pretty anemic for an overclock and far from indicative of the norm (from what I've seen, most all 4850s can hit the CCC limit of 700MHz with relative ease) and certainly not a fair comparison compared to a 4770 pushed to its max. Coming to that conclusion based on this one review isn't the wisest.

If they bump the 4770 up to 800SP you essentially have a 4890...but the chip doesn't have 160SP disabled like the 4830, it has a total of 640SP, period. Not wasting silicon is part of the reason the prices of these parts are as low as they are...

i hope they do come up with a 800sp version, but that would mean they have to redesign the chip itself. at 800sp it would rock. may even give 4870s a run.

I was always wondering if HD4770 would have more overclocking headroom than HD4850?

Maybe other reviews will confirm this also?

If anyone's wondering, the first 3 graphs are average framerates, the last 3 are minimum framerates 🙂

And an amazing card for 100$. Though I guess the OCed ones will be somewhat more expensive. Not to mentioned I think that 920MHz core is quite high - they got got lucky and used a nice sample. Though with later models you never know 🙂

With all the talk of how low the power consumption is on the 4770 and how cool it runs, I wouldn't be surprised if large overclocks were par for the course. You never want to get your hopes up, of course, but I bet most will easily be able to hit their CCC limit.

Maybe this is why ATI doesn't want OC'd versions of 4770 released (like the ASUS TOP)?

If Overclocked 4770's were faster than Overclocked 4850s this would make sense.

P.S. This ASUS TOP version @ 971 Mhz and 4600 MHz memory would be even faster than the 4770 used in the article.

mine is at 900/1000 any higher than 915 it will not be stable and if i put it at 915 i need to turn my fan up so this is the perfect overclock for me at 900/1000 and 50% fan speed
