Just bought one for about $100 USD.
By the way, how well does the card overclock and is there any chance of playing Crysis at Very High at 1280 by 1024 with the latest drivers.

If you like 10-15 fps, yes :p

It can get a pretty good OC if you have decent cooling on it.

There will probably some kind of physics implemented on the 48x0 cards but I doubt it will make it to the 38x0 cards because of the computational power differences (read: 38x0 cards just don't have the same power that the newer generation offers beyond what is used for gaming).

Even if they do manage to run physics on these cards it won't yield results of the same magnitude available on the 48x0 cards simply because there isn't as much computing power there to handle the calculations.

I got as high as 35fps on the crysis demo on all medium at 1440x900 with my 3870. That's on an x3350 @ 3.6, too, so I'm pretty sure that's all there is. It has huge drops if you go to high or use any AA or AF. you just got me curious again...damn you...I'm gonna do d/l it now and run it again...

sheesh...1.77 gb...good thing nvidia's site is almost 1mb/sec!

oops, I guess that must have been all high. I just ran 14x9 all medium. system specs as follows:

x3350 @ 3.6
2x1 gb ram @ 1080 5-5-5-18
3870 @ 843/1125

0xAA, 0xAF

all medium 14x9:
75.37 avg framerate on frames 1,2, and 3 combined

all high 14x9
35.51 on 1,2,3 avg

0xAA, 16xAF
26.90 on 1,2,3 avg

4xAA, 0xAF
24.22 on 1,2,3 avg

can't ####ing get AA and AF to work together on the stupid demo still for some reason.

Here's a sad, sad story. I purchased my 3870 when it first came out for $240 shipped. No lie, I may have used it for 2 hours of gaming so far. I've been so busy with work and other projects that I haven't even had time to game. Talk about a kick in the crotch!

I have two Asus EAH3870 512MB running crossfire. While playing company of Heroes, the card temp hit 63c max and i haven't oc it,d*mn horrible.
My Q6600 OC to 3.0Ghz and running stable for 24hrs,but lagged when playing COH.I can't figure it out what went wrong here.Whether it was cause by graphic card or cpu problem?:(
I planning to buy Nvidia280 1GB.Hope will solve the lagging issues.

Bro. ME too. I'm pissed at the card.
But guess what. I have the single slot Sapphire version of the 3870 and it only gets to 55c in load. thats good.
but i'm going to get a gtx 260 or 4850 as the 3870 doesn't cut it for me

If you want to get anything more powerful than the 3870 you need to upgrade your CPU and monitor else you risk bottlenecking your card. The 3870 is still a good card at 1280x1024. Its a pretty good overclocker as well although I didnt see any big gains from overclocking it.

Actually, the 3870 is a pretty weak card. for example, on my system it can't run Grid at 8xmsaa which I know is overkill but I expect it.
Also, CNC3 lags like crazy when theres 200-500 units on the screen appr 10fps which is unacceptable.
I will upgrade my platform to INtel later on (few months) but now graphics card.

I was about to say.

I'm on a 8800gs and it was pushing more than 60fps on medium which I have a slower CPU than you.

On High I get 37-38fps.

w/ company of heroes i mean 4 vs 4. for that program i just use the built in test in the video setup. coh is interesting because if you connect to others that are running their settings to high, it will hiccup your system - you should get a message that says something to the fact that the game hiccupped because player x has his/her settings too hgh.

also, i noticed that even @ 1280x1024, when i put in my new card (the 3850) and cranked all the settings to high/ultra and 8AA, it used a lot of ram - my machine idles @ about 300-400MB of ram, and after i played a game, ram usage was ~2.25GB, so if you are running out of ram, that could cause hiccups too. i did have some hiccups @ 2GB of ram, then i put in a 3rd GB and that went away.

sorry if this doesn't make the best sense, i have been f*cked up all day w/ a migraine and tension headache and just now checked my email, so bear w/ stuff that may not be worded correctly, but i think you get the overall idea.

bob4432,thanks for the replied.Regarding the fps,is it the highest the better or the lower the better?I reduced the settings a bit in COH and its do help, the graphics smoother then b4.Previously,i set the settings to max and it use up 80% of ram and 60% now.I using the COH Graphic performance test and it give me avg.59.3fps.Is it good or bad?
I work in Gsk,maybe u can try my company migraine and tension headache medicine. What i heard its quite good but also quite expensive.:)

@Sazakky,how much u selling ur 3870 card?I updated the 3870 driver to ver.8.511 and the graphic did improve and smoother a bit.
