only 100fps? that must look choppy as hell!

i know this may sound stupid, but are you running the latest drivers?

Yes, but this can't be PSU problem as I would have troubles booting, freezeups and shutdowns.

I installed the drivers straight from the CD.

Not really, this card eats about as much power as a 7900GT which could definitely run on that. Antec's are good quality, so 380W can do it.

Set the AA higher, 8X, 16X?

You can set AA/AF on 1.6? it basically runs like theres no vsync, with my 6600gt if i shut vsync off it looked horrible.

oh btw, source runs at 60fps MAXED everything even resolution, after 30 minutes my card hits around 65c. This bad?

it goes to 40-50 fps when heavy heavy firefights ar ehappening

That is as good as you can ever get in CS. What are you referring to when you say it runs like crap?

Try 6xAA If it looks the same then uninstall the drivers, reboot, then reinstall them and try again.

your power supply is alarmingly weak.
Only compared to the absurdly overpowered ones many people insist on using.

Heh, all so it was the lack of vsync you were complaining about. Yeah, that can look awful, especailly with framerate going as high as the do using new hardware in an old game like CS.

As for rthdribl, it is just and old graphics demo. We used to use it to stress test hardware back in the early days of DX9, but it is just good for being pretty looking these days.

And yeah, the temps and everything else you mentioned is all fine.

rthdribl is still useful as a stress test. It may not be as demanding as Crysis, but it would often show artifacts when your OC is too high, but not lock-up like many games do.

always important to remember the importance of vsync. So may ppl turn it off, but you shouldn't!!

Thanks guys! my last card '6600gt' was over-heating @ 94c, it was a 3 year old card... idle @ 60c, this one idle @ 49-55c and loads at 62-70c. I hope this is fine! thanks.. ill buy a bigger motherboard/aftermarket cooling , 120mm fans and some wire ties as well as a 400+ w Antec just to be safe, this wont be for many months though =)

You can set AA and AF in CS 1.6? How do you do that???

You can't go over 100fps in CS. There might be a workaround, but 100fps is more than enough. Most screens refreshes at 60-75hz max.

seems to be just new manufacturing materials, and die shrinking, my 8800gt according to Nvida can run at load up to 100C without problem,

though I can't speak for the rest of the components in your box, I usually load around 70C
still good to have plenty of air flow multiple 120mm fans, good cable routing etc.

thats weird lol, how that works... im just a big worry wort, ive never had good luck with components:

6600gt overheats
RMA two Motherboards
two Flashing of bios gone wrong
broken celeron pins
broken p4 2.8 pins
power supply too small

so many to count lol... im just worried that my PC is running too perfect and i dont want to to over-compensate. but if you guys say 70c or above is fine on load and 50c is fine idle.. ill take your word for it, im still going to opt for better cooling, wire management and a bigger motherboard/psu in the far future.
