I'm trying to keep my AGP rig alive since I can't drop $1000+ on a new one. I have a P4 3.0 GHZ HT, 1 GB DDR RAM, X800 Pro, 350 Watt PSU. I was thinking of getting a HIS Radeon HD 3650 AGP 512MB DDR2, 128-bit interface, 300 PSU minimum:

There is also a Sapphire HD 3650 AGP with the same RAM, interface, etc (there is also an HD 3650 AGP with DDR3 RAM as well) but requires a 550 Watt PSU minimum:

What's the deal with the two very drastically different power requirements? Is HIS underestimating and is Sapphire overestimating? ATI says it requires a 400 PSU and 550 for Crossfire:

Will I be able to run either the HIS or Sapphire versions of this card on my 350 Watt PSU?

I can find out I'll need to open up my rig though. I bought it from a MDG a long time ago. Will the brand make a difference?

If your x800 worked then the 3650 will work. Their power consumption should be in the same ballpark.

PSU brand does make a difference. Some cheap generic brand ones are way overated. An old thermaltake 430 watt one springs to mind, it was actually a 230 watt psu inside (Back in the day when a lot of thermaltake PSUs were dodgy). There plenty of psus out there which are like that.

I got the info on my PSU:

Brand: IOI (never heard of it)
Model: WIN - 350 PSU Pentium 4
Serial: GO=0310100749
Some other number: NS2535 FJ

I've been searching around but can't find anything about this PSU. Thanx for the help.
