I can say too that I have heard info the dual GPU card will replace the XTX - more from the standpoint of timing to get things on the market fast as possible...

I took from the info although that we would not see any cards until Q3 2007 and that the XT when released will do very well in perfomance on its own at a great price point.

Also the XTX is not a given dead product, more along the lines again, timing, if issues can be worked through in time, still chance to see limited release of them in the supply chain.

No I don't have links - remember there may be some people who's job puts them in a position to see certain info however of course they can not always post this info nor is it sitting yet on a website for all too see - along these lines too, I understood this info was all going public this week on current release date with correct product that will be shipping.

Let's not forget amoung all this that Nvidia is close to another launch too - So AMD as much as we all want a product, needs to be very careful that the next step for them is strong - lets hope AMD people all get their info straight and on one page with pumped up leak released info and get it all correct this time.

first XTX numbers really dont look that good, they've pumped it up with more memory and huge bandwidth and its just not gone anywhere.

To me, the most amazing part about all is ATi appears to have swallowed David Kirk's "not going unified" comments hook, line and sinker, slacked off on R600 because they didn't see a real threat and have now paid a big price for it. Its all the more amazing given that if you read Kirks comments carefully its obvious he was talking about the current gen (at the time) & unified shaders, not about next gen.

I think this also demonstrates quite nicely the the "common wisdom" that both sides have a very good idea of what the other is doing is nothing more than an internet myth.

Last point, I don't think even a refresh will save r6xx (see nv3x for proof) unless the "refresh" goes for full scalar ALU's intsead of vector ALU's (thats a fundamental architectural change bTW - not something you are going to see in a refresh), don't forget nvidia will have a g80 refresh also (and I'm not talking about the Ultra either)

I would take DTs review with a container of salt. They didn't have a current revision of the XTX and don't list all of their methodology. Lots of salt....

Scalar archtecture only helps in worst case scenarios. Most shader ops are performed on vector data, and I dont believe going scalar will solve the performance issues of the r600, especially when it already "supposedly" has more theoretical shader power than the 8800gtx.
