spec: Q6600, GA P35C-DS3R bios F4b, G.skill 8GB DDR2 800mhz, SAPPHIRE HD2900XT 1GB ddr4, vista64bit & xp pro 32bit.

previously using SAPPHIRE x1950pro, no problem at all under both xp 32bit and vista 64bit.

after uninstalled 1950pro, i installed 2900xt with newest driver 7.6.

xp 32bit works just fine.

vista 64bit give BSOD during windows loading process after install driver.

Then, I ran few tests. first, I installed 2900xt on a fresh copy of vista 32bit, it works just fine, no BSOD. after wiped out vista 32bit, i installed 2900xt again on a fresh copy of vista 64bit. upon restart to complete driver installation, the system just keep giving BSOD before it reached login screen.

I tried the driver on the cd, 7.5, and 7.6. none of them worked out...

the file that caused BSOD is atikmdag.sys.

wondering if anyone here is running 2900xt on vista 64bit....

Please help if you know. Thank you in advance!

..... well, guess i may have to stick with xp 32bit and vista 32 bit for a while........

weird,,, same setup, x1950pro works fine under vista 64bit, hd2900xt just refuses to work on vista 64bit... (works fine under xp pro 32bit and vista 32bit):(
I just don't get it:roll:

yes, that's the newest you can get.. intel hasn't update inf files for the chipset quite a while.. bios F4b is the newest one that i got from this forum (GA support sucks, they don't even know they have this bios)...

well, it is possible a chipset driver update or bios update would fix the problem. seems like a long time to wait. I just don't get why only hd2900xt has trouble with vista 64bit..... vista 32bit works fine. x1950pro works fine, too..

I hope ati could do something about this problem as atikmdag.sys is the file caused BSOD.
googled around, seems like quite many people get BSOD with this file.....
already opened a ticket on ati website. hope they will give some useful suggestion if they will ever answer my question....
