It came today at 10:00, and I'm running it in my brothers PC (im on leave in the states).
FX-55, 2GB corsair (all stock), basic IDE HDD,

>>OCZ 520 Modstream<<

Funny thing is, i get a "performance warning", and "Your graphics card may not be properly supported... PSU... clock speeds reduced... please make sure appropriate cables are connected."

Now, It didn't work with the regular 6 hole plug, I had to plug it into the back 6 holes of the 8 hole plug or else [no display].

I will be running some sort of preliminary bench on this rig if I can get one to work. (3dmark isn't working right now). Unfortunately I won't be able to benchmark fully until I get back to my big rig in sig in Japan. (June 1)

Good news is that it is extremely quiet in 2D mode. (I don't care about 3D because I use sound when I game

CS:S VIDEO STRESS TEST
114.88 fps average

1280x1024
8xAA (16x Wide Tent Samples), 16xAF, HDR and all else maxed.

I think I'm severely limited by CPU as well as the underclock on the GPU because I re-ran with lowered settings and got 114

This may be me failing to read correctly, but you realize your card needs * TWO * six pin connectors, right? Or a six and eight?

i think you have to have power to both of those input plugs, not just one or the other. if you dont have 8 pin connectors thats where your supposed to put the six pin but i do believe you still have to have another 6 pin for the other power input on the card also.

sounds like you need a couple of these.

COH Performance test: 1280x1024 everything in COH Max, 8xAA, 16xAF
AVG 71.1 fps
MAX 126.1 fps
MIN 34.9 fps

If you read the OP, PSU is OCZ modstream 520W, which has one 6pin. The card only displays with it plugged into the back 6 of the 8 hole plug on the 2900, and it automatically underclocks.

PS, fern420, thanks for the link I was looking for them...

The card should have came with a 2x4 pin to 1x6 pin (using only 3 of the four connections on each 4 pin molex) adapter. Use the 6 pin your PSU has plus the adapter that *should* have come with the card.

If it did not come with an adapter, then I am just going to laugh my ass off.

from all the pictures ive seen at newegg and zip they dont, only a few brands seem to even come with the molex to 6 pin adapters. i think ati forgot that most of us dont have 8 pin connectors on our power supply or if we do its only one.

LMAO

Are you serious? So they expect everyone that buys this card to have a PSU that has an extra 8-pin connector? Either that or they expect everyone to buy a new PSU.

-1 for every vendor who doesnt supply the adapter that will be needed by a huge portion of HD2900XT owners.

EDIT: OP, you're going to have to buy one of those adapters. You can probably find one at Fry's. I cvan't believe they wouldnt give you an adapter. My 7800GTs and X1900XTX came with one and they only needed one 6 pin connection.

yea, i ordered two of them yesterday just to be sure. unless they included them in the box post taking the display pictures they wont have them. if i recall one of my 1900 cards didnt come with the 6 pins either, i think it was my XTX, the crossfire one did but they didnt give me any 8 pin adapters for either but they weren't needed for those cards. heck i didnt even know they existed until yesterday, hehehe.

Two six-pins will work, and they're more common (than a spare 8-pin connection) on that range of PSUs. But with 2x 6-pin, you can't overclock or even use overdrive, IIRC, so it's still something of a mess--just a smaller mess than you're making it out to be.

Yes i just ordered two of those adapters from newegg, hopefully they only need the molex power since I only have 1 6 pin at the moment!

Driversr are last nights from ATI.AMD.com
Driver Packaging Version 8.37.4.3-070510a-047096E-ATI
(my X1900XT doesnt work with these drivers)

No, apparently you can't use overdrive unless the 8-pin is connected but you can use 3rd party tools to overclock with just 2x6pins connected. Someone on Xtremesystems has done this, using AMDGPUClock tool.

yes, i do believe its EITHER 2 molex OR one P4 input, not both so plugging two molex connectors into it should be just fine to power the 8 pin output, atleast i hope so because i dont have any spare P4 connectors, hehehe.
