hd tv question

Right now I own a behemoth Samsung HDTV, a CRT which cost about 700 dollars. Have LCD's caught up to the quality of a CRT yet? I am looking at a Westinghouse LCD at Best Buy, I was going to try and sell my CRT locally with the 4 year warranty. Just curious as to if going for a pricier, smaller screen would make more eye candy for me. Thanks.

Westinghouse? Generally LCD's have not caught up to CRT's as HD displays. However, you are limited to the CRT screen size of 30something inches. A better place to ask and to do some research is AVSforum.

LCD's, plasma's and rear screen are making gains and really should be to your liking.
Good luck with whatever your decision is. Also ask some questions like native resolution and contrast ratios. Another question to ask is if the demo video is HD or SD, don't let them fool you with a good quality DVD. Check out the source feed.

I'd say no, LCDs are not up to par with CRTs, especially for non-native res source material. Scaling generally doesn't work nearly as well on LCDs as CRTs.
