HD STB Control VIA IEEE 1394 A

I just configured a new HTPC(Motherboard has 1394 old one did not) and I was wondering if there is a way to control it VIA the IEEE 1394A ports on the back of the STB (Scientific Atalanta 4250HDC, Charter Communications) I mostly want to use it so I can record shows from the box and remotely change channels from the computer, and maybe get guide info
