HD start up problem

All the info I can give you on my HD is that it is a Maxtor 40GB. I ran Si-Soft and it just comes up with Generic Type 47!! My system is an NEC Direction P111 800EB, a MSI MS-6309 mobo with 384mb PC133 mem.

My problem is that after several hours being turned off the disk fails to spin-up obviously failing to boot. After several attempts the disk then spins and the machine boots. Apart from that the HD is in top health. I just can't figure the problem as after just a couple hours being dormant the machine will start normally???

I ran Maxtors powerdiag and it gave the thumbs up.

Anyone with any theories? 😕

I am online all day today on ICQ and MSM as OldGrandad, thx in advance.
