i have a 20 gig hd, i had/made 2 partition's and i used partition magic to merge them into 1. Everything goes ok, but now windows reports the max capcity i have is 18.9gig? but in bytes it reports i have 20,396,900,352(20 gigs right?) im very confused, can someone tell me whats going on? thanks

Also this is a 5,400rpm ata66 drive and in hd tach it reports i have a burst speed of 33.1!
everthing is setup in the bios and via's 4in1 so its not a software issue.

That sounds about right... I had a 10.2 drive that showed up as a 9.5 in Windows... It's due to the fact that a K for example is 1024 bytes, but I believe windows must see each K as 1000, and not 1024.
someone follow up if I am wrong but I am pretty sure that is why.. for example my 30 gig drive also now has only about 28GB total space usable in the windows OS... Rather than the full advertised 30.0GB.

It appears as if your on-board HDC is UDMA 33 compatible.. that's good though, UDMA 33 is not noticably slower than ATA/66/100 by the normal user... IE: you won't see the difference really... I never did.

and also, it's good that UDMA is enabled period.. when doing stuff like large file transfers, burning CD's, etc, UDMA either HAS to be enabled or is VERY RECOMMENDED to be enabled.. If your mobo supports UDMA/66 and up then make sure your IDE cable is an 80 pin blue/grey/black cable.. you can tell the difference between the 2 by looking at the grey strips, they are very fine on a UDMA/66 and up cable and not so fine on the UDMA/33 cable. so, try looking there too..

so everything on your setup is actually working fine, the only thing might be to change a cable if your board suppports a higher transfer rate.. other than that it's A-OK.

later!
