hd htpc 1080p24 flawlessly ?

ive been looking to build a hd htpc.......i have a dell xps laptop that has a 8400 in it and an hdmi out and i use it to play mkv files and for the most part it works but i get allot of problems the higher the resolution.. dvds play flawless... 720p play good and 1080p almost never play with out a problem.....


i have a dennon reciever with hdmi and a im looking to just build a hdhtpc that will only be used for downloading and playing movies...1080p needs to run flawless

which fanless hdmi video cards will do the job..(im not looking to upgrade anytime soon so i want it to do the job and a lil more to spare)

also how much ram and proccesing speed will i need ?.

and what is the importance of a tv tuner.. and which ones are recommended ?



ive built plenty of pcs i just want to understand how the video is decoded and exactly how much power i will need before i start building because i do not want to build somthing and get the same problems im getting with my laptop


also i would rather use xp since its not such a hog
 
You ever considered a NMT? Much cheaper than a HTPC without all the headaches. I use to have 2 HTPC's and I've replaced them both. My popcorn hour can play any media file from any resolution. It plays all the audio codecs, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-MA. It can also play bluray and DVD rips.
 
are you sure your display can do 24p flawlessly? Without that, it won't matter what parts you use in the pc
 
There's that new Acer HTPC coming out soon that uses Atom + Ion w/ 8600 NV graphics. There was an AT article on it not that long ago IIRC. It will play 1080P no problem, and the thing looks to be the size of a DVD-ROM drive or a Nintendo Wii.
