I boot my PC this morning and it gets to the desktop just fine. However, once I try to run any application (IE, Firefox, games, etc.) nothing will load. The HD is spins but nothing happens.

I used chkdsk and I did a Windows repair but nothing helped. I ran Seatools on my HD and I got an error that the NTFS File Structure Test "failed with critical errors". All the physical tests came out fine. The last thing I want to do is totally wipe the disk clean - any ideas here?

FYI, Safe Mode works but some applications still fail to run.

Try this out and see if it passes. http://www.hitachigst.com/downloads/dft32_v402_b00.exe .. drive fitness test to see if your hard drive has gone bad.. if it ends with a RED screen then you may want to invest in a new hard drive; if it ends with a GREEN screen then you may want to try the Windows Recovery. Take it back to the day before this happened and see if that does anything. Hope that helps a little..

Sounds like the file structure is damaged but the drive is physically okay.

Try running a THOROUGH scan disk to repair the damage. If you can't run scan disk from within the existing OS you'll need to conenct the drive as a slave on another computer and run the scandisk on it. You can also use a 3rd party disk repair utility like Norton's Disk Doctor that boots from a floppy or CD.

Hope this helps...
