My system has been running flawlessly for just under a year now. Ofcourse there's the occasional OS hiccup, but other than that it's been rock solid from the day i put it together. So I get home from work today and on my screen it says something like "reboot and select proper boot device" and my HD light is solid. I pressed reset and my vid card worked, then it went to the generic intel Mobo screen, stayed there for a few mins and then went to the "reboot and select proper boot device" again. After a few more tries of resetting the same result occured. I finally decided to shut down and pull the power and data plugs from the back of the HD and the mobo side to see if there was a problem...couldn't see one. So i blew them out, reattached them, restarted and now everything appears to be working fine again. Should I be concearned? Do I have some underlying problem that's going to pop back up one day and bite me in the ass? I could use some help.

Probably the power connector pin sockets are loose or corroded. They seem to be using really cheap contacts in those connectors these days that easily loosen and/or get corroded. I use a contact cleaner/enhancer called Caig Labs Pro Gold which seems to keep the problem to a minimum. You might also have to use a small screwdriver to tighten up the female contacts.

You blew out the dust? NEver, never do that!!

Seriously, Zepper's right on track. Sounds like a connection issue. Have you run virus scan recently?

air compresser set at 40psi with a wide angle blowgun gets them furballs right out. i do mine about once a month.

Scarcasm good word...but we all know how well it translates in text on IM or a chat room you foo'...next time type it in italics or something so people who actually want a serious answer understand that you're being a d!ck and not giving them the serious answer they want.

i don't think you need be. the only thing i've ever heard is use common sense. don't use 100lbs air with the nozzle right in the door of the floppy for example.
