HD DVR?

Well basically my HD box has a component output that is hooked upto my projector.

Is there a third party (Daytek, Pioneer, etc) DVR that I can buy with a built in HD that can record and play HD quality video? (by HD quality I mean 1080i I get from my HD box, not blu-ray, etc).

sfmedic: looks like it needs an analog cable plugin, which IMO would mean crappy PQ (no component in).

dajeepster: Does the TIVO work with anything, or does it need a certain provider?

Yeah. You need the $800 "Series 3" HD TiVo.

With Vista, at least some sort of Cablecard support is coming to the PC -- although if copy protection is enabled by your cable provider, you may not be able to do much more than timeshift.

So... at the moment, it's pretty limited, at least if you need CableCard support. If your cable company uses unencrypted QAM, you *can* get tuners for that for your PC... but software support is kinda iffy ATM in terms of DVR packages.

Looks like consumers take another one in the @!$, especially here in Canada. Doesn't seem like any cable card support at all from any of the providers here, atleast for now.
